Checking Up on a Credit Repair Business

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

If your credit rating is low and you can no longer get credit you may need to look into credit repair to get your score back in line. You can hire a credit repair company to help get incorrect information removed from your credit report.
There are many credit repair companies to choose from so you should not have any trouble finding one to help you. However, be sure to do a little research so that you hire a reputable company. A good place to start your research is the Better Business Bureau. The BBB has a website to make your research faster and easier.
The credit repair company acts as a go between for the consumer and the credit bureaus. The main purpose of the credit repair company is to dispute items on the consumer’s credit report. The consumer may have tried to contact the credit bureau on their own and not had the advantage to get the items removed. If this has happened to you then you will need to contact a credit repair company to talk to the credit bureaus for you.
By contacting a credit repair service you have made the first step towards getting the help you need in correcting your credit report. They will act as a mediator between you and the credit bureau until the items are removed. While they are working with you, you will have a chance to go over your entire credit report to make sure that all discrepancies are corrected.
The credit repair companies will charge you a fee in order to perform their services. Some of the fee will go to retrieving your records from the various credit bureaus. The credit bureaus will charge your credit repair company for each item that is removed from your credit report so part of their fee is used to cover this cost also. The consumer should be aware that it can take some time for all the items to be corrected at all three credit bureaus but once all is done your credit score should start to rise.
Since credit repair takes a while to accomplish you will be dealing with your credit repair company for quite some time. The goal of the credit repair company is to get all bad information off your credit report and to make sure that it is not put back in by any lenders or other financial institutions. Even after all is complete with the credit repair company and you see the resulting rise in your credit score you need to stay vigilante. You need to check your credit report at least once a year to make sure that no other erroneous information has been put back on your credit report.
One thing that a consumer needs to keep in mind is that the credit repair company will not remove any information that is correct even if it is detrimental to your credit. It is unlawful for them to do this or even attempt to have it done.

In today’s world of credit score based lending, credit repair can make a world of difference. Credit repair is simply a legal way to clean up and improve your credit file also known as your credit report. A successful credit repair process has an end result of bringing an individual’s financial history back to life. As much as it helps, it takes time, and should never be viewed as a quick fix.
Although credit repair may seem like a very tedious process it is actually a small price to pay for the benefits gained. This process has become a necessary part of today’s life as more and more people fall victim to bad credit. This “repair” re-establishes the individual’s creditworthiness in the eyes of potential lenders and/or existing creditors. Credit repair is not an easy process and is not something that happens over night.
Taking the time and effort to repair your credit requires patience and, many times, the help of an outside organization. Many have been through similar situations as you and the good news is that it is possible clean up your credit file and remove all the inaccurate information. However, truly fixing your previous financial issues can only be achieved through financial discipline and hard work.
Repairing your credit profile is one of the most important financial decisions you can make. It isn’t just a series of techniques and steps to take, it is your legal right to have questionable negative items removed from our credit files that all of us have as consumers. Regardless of how bad your credit is credit repair is a possibility but it requires changes in spending, saving and bill payment habits. Repairing a bad credit score will require you to have patience, focus and also a little luck.
So how does it all work? A detailed review of your credit file is one big piece of the credit repair puzzle. After careful review, any inaccuracies or incomplete information on a credit report should be reported to the consumer reporting agency (CRA) and the bank, credit card company, or other entity that provided the information to the agency. There may be a substantial amount of inaccuracies currently in your own credit file. Reporting agencies rarely verify or cross check information unless they have a specific reason, like a request from you, to do so.
Although sometimes it seems to be a difficult, time consuming endeavor it needs to be a priority in your personal finance life. Bad credit should not be a source of shame or embarrassment. In addition, it can have more affect on your life then you may realize. Besides the psychological effects it can have on some, bad credit becomes an issue, when you need to make any major purchase such as a home, car, furniture or major appliances. Whether to help those recover from a negative financial past or to make additional improvements for those with good credit, it is a worthwhile investment.
Credit repair is a booming business now and, unfortunately, a lot of unscrupulous elements are thriving in the market. Scams and shady companies are catching millions of people around the world, and are bleeding those people for millions of dollars a year. Some credit repair clinics do this by challenging every item in a credit file be it negative, positive, or neutral with the hope of overwhelming the credit bureau into removing information without verifying it. Other companies often claim they guarantee to get you a credit card, regardless of your financial history.
If you decide to work on improving your scores, it is absolutely in your best interest to enlist the help of a legal professional. Bad credit repair is possible and can all be done legally, by legal professionals. Due diligence on your part is required as many law firms can charge as high as $2500 for a consultation and some debt counseling offices can charge as much as $800 just to start the process to erase poor credit. Other law firms that specialize in credit score repair have similar techniques at their disposal, which are also completely legal, but offer legal credit repair at substantially lower fees.

Finding the Right Credit Repair Company

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

If you have decided to fix your bad credit, there are credit repair companies that can help. This is a big decision and not one you should take lightly. On average, a credit repair company will charge you a few hundred dollars and their program usually takes a year to complete.
You don’t want to pick the wrong company and find yourself deeper in debt and nowhere closer to improving your credit. On the other hand, if you find a great company to help you that might be one of the smartest financial decisions you can make!
Let’s first of all take a look at what you should hope a credit repair service will do for you. Take a look at your credit and ask yourself what you think needs to improve. Credit repair goes beyond disputes with your credit companies and the credit bureaus.
Credit repair has been seen as something that is repairing the credit report. Now, working to repair your bad credit can also help to fix your credit report. You have rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act to dispute any items that you feel are inaccurate.
This part of repairing your credit has been very beneficial to people who have incomplete or inaccurate information on their credit reports. This will of course only help your credit score once you get the items corrected.
This is just the beginning, repairing your credit. Although some people are not satisfied with just working to correct their credit reports. If you find a reputable credit repair company then they should also work with your creditors to have them stop reporting negative accounts.
Another thing they should do for you is contact collection agencies to have them stop reporting negative accounts. Some credit repair companies will even dispute some debts reported and find out how legitimate those claims really are.
Now, it depends on each individual credit situation just how well a credit repair company can help you. Some people might only want to get help on fixing their credit reports, while others need more extensive help and look for a company that provides full credit repair service.
Here is an important question most people ask, how can you tell if this is a reputable credit repair company? There has been a bad rep given to this industry because of many scams that have taken place. Fortunately, the fraudulent companies have been shut down. I think it is still necessary that you take some precaution and figure out if you have found a legitimate company before working with them.
Familiarize yourself with some of the laws that surround credit repair companies. The Credit Repair Organizations Act was drafted to protect you, the consumer, from any credit repair scams. They also protect your right to get any help with credit repair for your report.
There is always the Better Business Bureau (BBB) reports, they keep all complaint on file made against companies. If there are multiple complaints against a company or a low rating, proceed with caution.
Also, if you come across a company that does not list “credit repair” in their services on the BBB then also be wary of them. The nice thing about the BBB is that they have high standards for credit repair companies. If you have found a company that is possibly fraudulent, the give away is that they have not listed “credit repair” with the BBB.
As with anything you do, concerning your finances and credit, take the time to do some research. There are many reputable companies available and thanks to the internet you can find them within minutes of searching! Credit repair is possible for everyone and good credit is definitely in your future.

Credit Repair and the Secret to Rebuilding Your Credit

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Credit Repair Everything Counts

Credit repair is not complicated. Your credit scores reflect the content of your credit report, both the positive as well as the negative. Many people in credit repair programs are so focused on the negative that they neglect the positive. No matter how effective you are at cleaning up derogatory information on your credit report, unless you take the time to build new positive credit your credit repair effort will languish.

Credit Repair Logic

The logic is easy. Your credit scores are intended to reflect the amount of risk a lender will face when lending you money. In the credit repair process you should think of your credit score as an impartial witness of your life, judging your ability and willingness to meet your obligations. The best way to impress this impartial witness is to offer proof of your willingness each and every month.

Revolving Credit Rules

The most powerful way you can offer proof of your credit worthiness and influence your credit repair progress quickly is with the proper use of revolving credit. If you don’t have any open credit cards, now is the time to open them. If your credit is currently too weak to get regular unsecured credit cards, just get secured cards. It’s easy and will do the trick.

Credit Repair and Secured Credit Cards

Secured credit cards are every bit as helpful for your credit repair as regular unsecured cards. It does not matter if the limit on these new cards is miniscule. Your credit scores will get the same benefit from a little secured card as it will from a high limit unsecured card, as long as you manage it in the right way.

Credit Card Management

Credit card management for score optimization is not difficult, but unless you know what to do mistakes are likely, and your credit repair project may even suffer when it could have easily succeeded. Timely payments are essential of course, but the real trick to credit repair success is to understand the relationship between your balance and the limit on the card.

Your Scores Are In Your Hands

The impact of your credit cards on your credit repair will depend almost entirely on your balances. This is always the case, but is even more important during the first year after a card is open. There are five ratios that will trigger score changes; 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 percent usage. Sixty percent usage of a card will have a neutral effect, the two tiers below will increase your scores, and the two tiers above will reduce your scores. Don’t underestimate the impact; maxing out a new card can knock 150 points from your scores.

Credit Repair with the Right Credit

There are a few other important factors to consider when rebuilding credit. Not all credit cards are equal. Store cards are of little value for your credit repair. For undisclosed reasons, the geniuses behind the credit scoring formula have downgraded the benefit that accrues from store cards, and amplified the harm that can result from having them. Likely reasons include the fact that store cards are easier to get, usually have higher interest rates, and consequently may be an indicator of poor judgment on the part of the consumer. Hey, I’m just reporting the news! Do yourself a favor and stick with MasterCard, Visa, Amex, and Discover.

Your Credit is Alive

When it comes to credit repair there is no good substitute for new revolving debt. A new auto loan is helpful, but will not have the impact that a credit card will have. Credit cards are emphasized because they are open-ended and alive; each month they report they can reflect something new about your financial life. If you keep your balance low and make your payments on time it will tell the credit scoring model that you are living conservatively and within your means. If you max out a card it is interpreted as a warning of budgetary strain and potential default.

You are Not Alone

Credit repair is not a difficult process, but it requires a bit of know-how and even a dash of finesse. If you take your time to plan the credit repair process you will succeed and see your efforts rewarded beyond your expectations. And always remember that help is available. If you are in doubt pick up the phone and call a credit repair professional. You are not alone!

In Search of the True Credit Repair Professional

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Now is the Time for Credit RepairThe quality of your credit has never been as important as it is today. Lenders have tightened their guidelines and interest rates are now determined by new Risk-Based Pricing models; the lower your credit score, the higher your rate, and every single point can make a difference. People everywhere are turning to credit repair professionals to help them clean up their credit reports and optimize their credit scores. The Importance of Professional HelpThere is a good reason that so many people are reaching out for credit repair help. There was a time when it was enough if you paid your bills on schedule. Those days are over. The advent of the complicated FICO credit scoring model has made a science of credit score optimization, while the complexity of the credit reporting system has made it more difficult than ever to identify and correct errors. How to Find the True Credit Repair ProCredit repair is no longer a simple matter of spotting an error on your credit report and disputing it with the offending credit bureau. A working knowledge of the Fair Credit Reporting Act is a bare minimum requirement, while your credit score is dependent on many subtle factors, most of which have nothing to do with your ability to make your payments on time. It’s a new world and the right help can make all the difference. Here are the essential qualifications to look for in a credit repair professional.Knowledge of the LawsA credit repair professional has an intimate knowledge of the laws that govern all of the participants in the credit reporting system. The credit bureaus are bound by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, collectors are governed by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and state statutes of limitation will contribute significantly to the negotiability of collections.Familiarity with Lender RemediesTruly effective credit repair often must look beyond the credit bureaus and include lender cures and rehabilitation opportunities. Many lenders offer attractive programs that can get you back on track and even eliminate bad marks from your credit report. The credit repair professional will be able to guide you through the process of approaching creditors about these opportunities as appropriate. This multi-dimensional approach will insure that you get the best possible results. An Understanding of the FICO Scoring ModelThere are many variables involved in the process of credit score optimization, and everything matters; payment history, account balances and usage, age of accounts, account types and even the mix of accounts. A credit repair professional has in-depth knowledge of the FICO scoring model and will provide you with everything you need to know to manage the content of your credit report, strike the proper balance, and get the most out of your credit score.Help With Rebuilding CreditIt is not unusual, after a period of financial stress, to have little or no open credit. Your credit scores are based on both the positive and the negative information on your credit reports. Effective credit repair must address both parts of the equation simultaneously. To focus only on removing erroneous derogatory information from your credit report will leave half of your credit repair potential untapped. A credit repair professional will help you rebuild your credit and manage your new debt for the best possible credit score results.Putting it All TogetherThe genuine credit repair professional will address all aspects of your credit to insure that you get the best possible results. Everything necessary will be done to clean up your credit reports, improve your credit scores, rebuild your credit, and make you as lender-ready as you can be. In selecting a credit repair service make sure that their program covers every base. And trust yourself. Pick up the phone and interview your prospective choices before signing up. Write down a list of questions and ask away. Your credit is too important not to take the time to make the right choice. Good luck! Copyright © 2008 James W. Kemish. All Content. Starting Credit Repair the Right Way

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Credit Repair Done RightIf you want your credit repair effort to succeed you need the right credit scores and credit reports. The wrong approach can put you on the path to lower credit scores and frustration. The information you are about to read may shock and amaze you. But if you do it right you will have a great advantage and avoid some serious frustration. The Scores You NeedDo you know what your credit scores are? Are you sure? If you are going to begin a credit repair effort and want to benchmark your starting point you should do it right. Here’s the problem. The credit scores sold by the credit bureaus are not the same scores lenders use. Huh? That’s right; the credit bureaus created their own credit scores to cash in on the market opportunity. If you muddle through the fine print at the credit bureau websites you will discover the disclaimer.Avoid Those Imitation ScoresThis unfortunate fact applies to the army of credit resellers on the web as well. There is another problem with bureau scores. You may think that even an imitation score will serve your credit repair purposes, believing that your progress should be reflected in some way. I’m sorry to say that these scores do not behave the same as your real lender scores and are almost sure to result in disappointment.MyFICO, the Right Score for Credit RepairIf you want your real scores you have to go to MyFICO.com the website of Fair Isaac Corp, the creator of the FICO score. The current cost of scores is about $50 for all three combined. A bit pricy, but it’s the only game in town. And for those intrepid credit repair warriors that want more detail, Equifax does in fact sell a FICO score. Unfortunately, they only make it available for your Equifax report, and you definitely want all three scores for your credit repair effort. Also, they use an older release of the formula, so the results will vary. But Nix on their Credit ReportsSo, head on over to MyFICO and get your scores right from the source. It’s the right credit repair choice. But there is another twist. Although MyFICO is the only way to get your scores, the credit reports they provide are the pits. For some strange reason MyFICO blocks out virtually all of the account numbers and offers only about half of the information that your credit repair effort will need. So get your wallet out again because you will have to buy your reports elsewhere. It takes few bucks to get your credit repair underway, but it’s worth doing it right. The Right ReportsAlthough the credit bureaus peddle poor credit score products, they offer excellent tri-merged reports, full of all of the detail you need for your credit repair project, and when it comes to credit repair every detail matters. I’ve taken you down a twisty road so far, and I’m sorry to say that there is one more twist on this journey before we arrive at our goal.Credit Repair and the Right DealHere is the final twist. The credit bureaus want to sign you up for monthly membership, hence the offers of free credit reports in exchange for joining this or that service. If you are not careful your free credit report will end up costing you hundreds of dollars. If you want to join a monthly service, that’s another story. There are benefits. But if you just want to get your credit repair underway and want a good cheap tri-merged report you have to look very carefully.Hiding in Plain SightTrueCredit.com offers the best cheap one shot tri-merged report on the web. But it’s not easy to find, so don’t just run off to TrueCredit and think you’re going to find it clearly advertised. In fact, it’s about the last thing that they want you to buy. But it’s there, hiding in plain sight. Well, almost. Scroll down the home page. Look under the main picture for small print in light gray that says that coverage is not available for residents of New York.Credit Repair Treasure Hunt SuccessRight under that line you will find another line that says that you can also get your 3-bureau credit report without the free score. Click on the words, without the free score. It’s a credit repair treasure hunt. How hard can they make it? Wow. Make sure to uncheck the two boxes where they try to sell you two other ridiculous items that have no use for your life, not to mention your credit repair efforts. Now you have the tools you need to get started. Good luck!
